Whenever we think of LUSH we probably think about the beautiful and wonderful smelling bath bombs, however I've fallen in love with so many other areas of the lush product range and my newest obsession is the shower gels.

Jeffree Star Liquid Lipstick Review: Rose Matter

Remember back when I did my To Highlight or Not to Highlight post and I was approximately 100 years behind the trend? Well that wasn't a one time occurrence, it's basically describes my entire life, liquid lipsticks included.

I've been contemplating getting a liquid lipstick from either Kat Von D or Jeffree Star for a long long time and when JS released Rose Matter it was a shade I was immediately drawn to and after some scrolling online I did an impulse purchase, which never really happens for me with beauty products...take away food yes..but beauty products...never!



So what appealed to me about this one enough to buy it? I just really liked the colour of Rose Matter, it's a pretty standard colour, nothing too out there which is what you normally get with the JS range, and all the swatches I'd seen online looked really pretty. It definitely seemed like a colour I could wear and not feel really self conscious about. It probably helped that I'd been really into watching JS's YouTube channel, binge watching if you will. So I decided to take the plunge.

So ordering just one lipstick cost me about £20 with the postage included, the package arrived quite quickly, I think it arrived in just over a week, which isn't bad really coming all the way from America. I didn't have to pay any import tax but then I only ordered one, so if you are ordering more than one, I'd do some research in case you get taxed.

First impressions are that I really like the packaging, its very bright and pink but I quite like that, it stands out on my make-up table! The wand is quite bendy and easy to use, having a flexible wand makes it much easier to apply. I have to admit that I don't really like the smell of this, it's quite strong and sweet smelling, I prefer to have products without any smells because if I don't like the smell it tends to put me off using it!

Now, I absolutely suck at applying this, I have a really thin upper lip and I think liquid lipstick just highlights that rather than makes it look better. I also think this would be much better with a lip pencil to line your lips, I just don't have any pencils that would match this shade! It does dry down really matte and isn't drying at all. The colour stays on my lips for hours and it only came off after eating something properly for dinner, it lasted through my lunch at work and sipping water throughout the day!





This is freshly applied so still has a sheen but does dry completely matte, I  promise! 

I'm honestly not even sure this colour suits me which is a huge disappointment after having splurged on it and waiting for it to arrive. I'm going to keep wearing it when I feel brave enough and maybe i'll eventually get used to wearing more of a bright colour. I do think buying a lip pencil will help because it'll make applying it much easier, it's hard to make a liquid lipstick look amazing on your lips when they aren't lined!

After taking the photos for this blog post I have noticed that if you pay really close attention you can notice very tiny tiny speckles of glitter, which is cute but you'd never actually notice!

I can honestly say this wasn't worth the splurge, the colour is beautiful but I just don't think it suits me personally, which is such a shame. It certainly looks darker on me than the lighter coral shade that shows on JS's website, so if you do order please make sure you research some other swatches online!

Meadowhall Illamasqua Vegan Event.

When I got invited to the Illamasqua Vegan event in Meadowhall, I was quite excited to learn about some more cruelty free products. I'd heard of Illamasqua before but I've never tried any of their products, so it was a good chance to get to know the products and the brand a little better. They have recently been approved by PETA and the event was to highlight the products that were fully vegan.

Around a year ago, not long after starting my blog I decided to go cruelty free. This is something I thought would be a really hard transition but it actually turned out to be a pretty easy swap over. There are so many amazing cruelty free brands around that I've discovered and so many amazing products, it's good to know you can still look incredible and animals haven't suffered for the privilege.

Upon arrival we were welcomed with strawberries and marshmallows and then we were offered some elder flower juice, I love all three of these things so it was lovely to have a little snack and of course they were all vegan.

We were then shown two make up looks with the vegan products. The first was a more toned down natural look for everyday and second was a bunny inspired look, for those that don't know a bunny is the logo for PETA, so it fitted the theme of the event nicely.

I really loved this second look, obviously it's not an everyday look unless you are into something a little out there but I really really liked the flick of white at the end of the eyelashes, I thought it was really cute and really made the eye area stand out more. I also loved the white freckles, I'm a big lover of freckles and I thought this was such a lovely little twist. I just really enjoyed the whole look in general, it was really fun and nothing i'd seen before. Maybe it'll inspire me to try something new!

After the demo's I had a look around the products because like I said previously I've never actually seen any of the ranges before. I'm always drawn to the foundations and the lipsticks and I accidentally fell in love with two lipsticks called Climax and Scandal. I think after the wedding and the spending ban is lifted I'm going to head back and try a few things out.

Until then though we were all lucky enough to get given a little goodie bag with a black eyeliner and a primer which I can't wait to try out, I swatched the eyeliner on my hand and it's a really thin and precise line and very waterproof, I had to use cleanser to get it off because it wouldn't budge! To Highlight or Not To Highlight, That Is The Question.

It's pretty obvious that highlighting is a massive trend in the beauty world at the minute and in true Tarnya style I'm about 10 years behind with this trend. The main reserve I have about highlighting is that I normally like my makeup to be pretty matte because I get quite oily and I don't really like the 'dewy' look on me. So the idea of adding something to my face to make it look even more oily and shiny has been putting me off trying highlight.

However, I don't think I can truly judge a trend unless I try it out for myself. So I decided to pick up the new Sleek - Solstice highlighting palette and attempt to highlight everyday for 2 weeks and see what my feelings were like afterwards. 

Sunday Sitdown #9

I almost forgot to do a Sunday sit-down post this month because time truly has whizzed on by. I know I say this is every Sunday sit down post but the past month seems to have gone by really quickly even though I haven't seem to have done anything interesting, ha!

As always I'm going to talk about a few things that have been going on with my blog and in real life, so lets grab a cup of tea and have a catch up!

LUSH Bath Bomb Haul.

 As you can probably tell from the title of this post, I went a little crazy in LUSH recently and bought a bunch stuff I haven't tried before, mostly bath bombs but a bubble bar and a bath oil snuck in there too!

This was quite a large haul for me but I really wanted to invest in my bath time. I've been enjoying some home yoga recently and relaxing in a bath afterwards is amazing and really helping me sleep.

So what better excuse to enable myself into a cheeky LUSH purchase immiright?

A Foot Pamper For Tired Tootsies.

Lets talk about feet. I always forget to look after my feet, which is silly really to say they do all the work! I've been making a real effort recently to enjoy a pampering bath once or twice a week, so I've incorporated a little foot routine into the bath to pamper my poor little tired tootsies.

LUSH Skincare Routine March 2016

If you caught my last Lush Skincare Routine you'll have known for awhile that I'm all aboard the Lush boat for pretty much everything self-pampering wise these days.

After heading to a recent Lush Event I spent some time one on one with one of the lovely staff talking about my skin. I've been using the Ultrabland cleanser since being kindly gifted at the last event and  have absolutely loved it, so much so that when I've eventually used it all up I'll be sure to buy another pot! It's slightly thicker than average, I work this into my face using a good layer including over my eye make-up as it doesn't irritate my eyes at all. I then take this off with a warm wet flannel and it leaves my face feeling really clean and moisturised. My friend Aimee even said she uses it as a moisturiser too, so this is a great all round product that I highly recommend!

So when I ran out of both my toner water and my moisturiser it was time to head back and find something new to experiment with. After talking with the lady, I've come to the conclusion that I have combination skin, meaning sometimes it can be dry and other times it's quite oily and she immediately recommended the Full of Grace Serum bar.

This is pretty self explanatory, its a serum in a solid bar form, you hold this in your hands until it warms up to the temperature of your body and then it starts to melt slightly. Then when you've got enough on your hands you just apply this to your face and make sure you've rubbed it in properly. As it's a serum I use this at night time as it takes a long time to sink into your skin properly, you could use this at any point but obviously you'd need to allow yourself the time. I place the serum back in the bag and it almost immediately sets again.

After applying my serum I use a new moisturiser over the top of it called Celestial. This smells amazing! My favourite scent in all the world is Vanilla and this smells of vanilla and almond, it's perfect. It's not too thick either, so it sinks it really nicely and doesn't leave your skin really sticky. I am really enjoying this moisturiser and it goes a long way, so I can imagine this lasting a long long time.

After using the combo of all 3 of these things my skin has been doing really well. It hasn't been anywhere near as oily or as dry, it seems to be fairly stable. It also seems to be helping keep my spots under control too, which is always a bonus right?! It also seems to be helping keep my make-up on longer too, which is something I always seem to struggle with.

LUSH Spring Event, Sheffield.

Spring is coming and with every new season, Lush bring out some gorgeous seasonal products. I was once again a very lucky lady to be invited along to the Lush spring event and I couldn't wait to get in there!

After a little introduction from the lovely Becki I headed around the shop to look at all the products, some of the spring stuff is super cute, I love the carrots, easter eggs and the adorable lady bird! There was plenty of mothers day products too with lovely gift boxes such as the one pictured below, they are still available in store until stocks run out :)

After looking around I headed over to the skin care area which is my favourite bit! After speaking through a few different products I added two new things to my basket, I'll be writing up an updated Lush skincare routine very soon, so keep your eyes open for that one.

I then headed over to play area! Today we were making the peoples favourite, The comforter, which I've never actually used before, so I was very excited. We were asked to take 2 handfuls, one of each colour and make them into sausages, you then twist the two around each other and then squash them down so it makes a swirled pattern. I had so much fun doing this and it smelt amazing the entire time!

Mine didn't exactly have the most amazing swirl in it but it would do, all we had to do was leave them 24 hours to set and then use them!

After this I headed over to the 'shower' station. Here I watched a couple of people have a consultation about some lovely body scrubs, shower gels and moisturisers! I saw and smelt the Yuzu and Cocoa shower gel which smelt just like chocolate orange and I couldn't help but add it to my basket, it also helps that my favourite colour is yellow!

After having a little chin wag over a drink and some snacks it was time to pay and head home, we were once again given the most generous goodie bag and I couldn't wait to have a play!



After waiting 24 hours for my the comforter bubble bar to set, the next evening I had a lovely soak in the bath, the comforter smelt amazing, even Nick commented on how nice it smelt. I used my new gifted face mask Cosmetic Warrior which smells like garlic, so not the most relaxing thing to smell in the bath but worked great on my skin. I can't wait to try the rest of the products I was gifted and let you know what I think of them, I think I'm going to use the Ladybird bubble bar next because she smells and looks great!

The Fragrance Shop App Review.

Over the past couple of weeks I've been hanging around the fragrance section in Boots like a right creep smelling all the new perfume launches, I've found a couple of new amazing scents that I've been considering buying. One lunch after creepin' around I got back to my desk to see a lovely little email from The fragrance Shop, no joke, it was like fate. 

I was asked to have a play around on their iPhone app and see what I thought. I downloaded the app immediately because I wanted to try it out.

Once you've signed up you are presented with a mini questionnaire but with photographs, so they give you the option of 4 different photos for each section, such as Deco Style, Ambience and Primary Colours and you pick which one you like the most from the 4 photos and it eventually gives you a list of fragrances it suggests you try.

The 'My Try List' gives you a % of how much the fragrance matches you, so for example, here is my current 'try list' and you can see the top one is a '97%' match. I was actually quite impressed that from the photos it managed to match me with quite fruity, sweet scents, which is what I'm really into.




I actually really love Britney Spears - Fantasy  Intimate Edition, I used to wear Britney Spears when I was younger and DKNY - Delicious Delights Cool Swirl is lovely as well as I've smelt that before.

I think this app is a litter bit of fun and if anything, fun to just see what you get matched with and if it's anything close to your style or taste in perfumes.

I was also kindly sent a package from The Fragrance Shop called 'The Discovery Club', this includes samples of a bunch of 'classic' fragrances for you to try before you buy. I was really excited about this, as I  mentioned before I've been in full 'wanting to get a new scent' mode and this is a great way to have a sniff without the commitment. I also thought it was a great way to smell some that you wouldn't necessarily choose for yourself. 

There were a few that I liked but as soon as a smelt Nina by Nina Ricci I sprayed it all over me and wore it for work that day and it smells lovely and sweeter and lasted all day, I swear I could smell it for a couple of days after too. It was fruity/floral and I love that scent, I'm all about the sweeter scents. So if you are in the market to try something new and have no idea what, then this is a perfect way to try some, it would also be a cool and different gift for a friend or mum who wants to try something new but doesn't know which direction to head in. I have to say that the sample sizes are pretty decent too, so it's not like you get one or two uses out of these, they will last you awhile for each and you can get a really idea of the smell and if you like it. You also receive some discount codes so if you do like any of those in the samples, you get a discount if you want to buy the full bottle, bonus!

I can't wait to try out some more of the samples sent to me, maybe I'll be able to decide what fragrance I want before I go away in May...here's hoping!

4 Most Used Make-Up Brushes.

If you are like me, when you find things you like and that works for you, you tend to stick to them like glue. I put on make-up pretty much every day and I tend to use the same brushes and tools all the time, I find it hard to let something new in! So I thought I'd share with you the 4 make up brushes I use constantly.

The first brush I'll talk about is the Sigma F80 Flat Kabuki Brush. I was recommended this brush from my friend Rosie over at ohrosie. I use this brush to buff in my foundation, the large flat head makes it really easy to cover a lot of your face. The handle is quite thick and easy to hold and gives you good purchase to really buff the make up into your face. I've had this brush for at least a year now (might even be 2!) and I still use it all the time and it hasn't lost it's shape or shed loads and it's pretty easy to clean with a good brush cleaner.

The next brush is the Powder Brush by Real Techniques, I use this for setting powder and bronzer. It's quite a large brush but I prefer a big brush so I can sweep the powder all over and not have to spend ages doing it. It's also handy for bronzer so I can just swish it around my face and be done with it.

The third brush I bought after seeing people on Youtube setting their under eye concealer with this brush instead of patting it with their finger and it intrigued me. So I bought the Real Techniques Setting Brush  to try it out and I have to say I haven't looked back since. It's really easy to just pop your concealer on then swirl and sweep this brush over it to blend it in, really quick and easy and saves you so much time! 

Then lastly, is a brush I use for my brows. This is the Revlon Double Ended Smokey Eye Brush, which is obviously for eye-shadow, but I find this is perfect for eyebrows. I use the slanted tip side to draw the tops and bottoms of the brow and to define the pointed side on the outer brow, then I use the small rounded tip to fill in my brow, as it's quicker and easier to fill them in. Perfect little brush, I don't think I could live without this brush now! It obviously has it's uses for a powder eye-liner or for putting a little eye-shadow under the bottom lash, basically a good all rounder! 

So those were the brushes I use on an almost daily basis. I've never felt the need to have any more in my routine right now, but that is because I really suck at make-up. What brushes do you use often? Do you have any to recommend?

Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick.

If you caught my 'What I got for Christmas' post you will have seen I got a Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick in the colour Amazing Grace from my lovely fiancé, which I was very happy about. I usually think quite hard about doing reviews on products, specially as I'm trying to be doing more 'meaningful' posts but I couldn't resist with this one, because once again I am suitably impressed with Charlotte Tilbury.



I picked out the colour I wanted after much deliberation looking at the website and swatches. I must say the swatches on the CT website are quite accurate, so I recommend you have a look if you are thinking about buying something. 

Lets just mentioned the packaging right off the bat, because we all know how gorgeous it is and we all love it, so obviously no disappointment here, I would like to say that it has a good weight to it and the snap you get when you put the lid on is very satisfying. But that's enough of that!

The next thing I want to mention is the shape, this has a very different square flat tip which differs from the usual pointed rounded tip you usually get but I have to say that I find it much easier to apply.

Then onto the good stuff...formula. Now I've struggled with Matte lipsticks in the past, they can be quite hard to apply, drying on the lips and flaky, but this is the complete opposite. It's very moisturising, so not drying at all, very easy to apply, it glides quite easily on the lips and isn't flaky at all. The pigment is great, this colour is quite bright so I kind of dab it on my lips and rub it into place with my finger but go over with another layer for more of a colour pop.

The colour is very beautiful, it's hard to explain fully but the colour isn't like a huge BAM in your face colour, its muted down but still very bright colour, it's almost like getting the colour and putting a slight blur on it, yep that was a totally weird way to describe a lipstick colour, but I'm rolling with it.

The smell is quite sweet smelling, it reminds me of the MAC scent, so if you like a sweeter smelling product this is nice, however if you don't like sweet smelling lipsticks the smell doesn't stick around when on the lips that much, so you'll only smell it when you put it on, so you might be able to cope with that.

Then finally, it's not tested on animals which is always a good thing. This is my go-to luxury cruelty free brand every time..specially at £23 a lipstick...eek! But I honestly think it's worth every penny. 

If any of you are wondering if I'm planning on getting another.. I am and I think im going to pick up the colour Sexy Sienna when I lift my own spending ban which is more a muted pink rather than a coral colour...so give it a couple of month for that review...

LUSH: Catastrophe Cosmetic Face Mask First Impressions.

During a recent LUSH event I had the opportunity to make my own Catastophe Cosmetic face mask. It was a great little experience putting all the ingredients in and mixing it around and seeing it all blend together and not just in a pot when you walk around the store.

So when I got home from the event, I put the pot in the fridge and completely forgot about it for about a month, standard. So during an evening binge of Sex and the City I was rummaging around in the fridge for some chocolate and I caught a glimpse of it out of the corner of my eye and thought, it is time. I couldn't remember anything about this face mask, I had no idea if it was meant to be moisturising, calming, cleansing etc.

After scrapping back my hair, I went about slapping it on my face. The first thing you notice is how nice it smells, it just smells so lovely of the blueberries, which is one of my favourites! It was quite easy to slather on and smooth over my face.

Just so you know, the cute rating when this is on your face is -100, you look like something out of The Walking Dead...



It advises to leave the face mask on for 10-15 minutes, but I always leave them on for much longer. I think I left this on for about 45 minutes..or however long 2 episodes of Sex and the City are...

I wiped this off with a flannel and some warm water and it came off really easily, I didn't need to scrub hard or anything.



Afterwards my skin felt really clean and soft. The thing I noticed the most was that my spots and redness had gone down so much. I was actually really impressed by how much they had gone down, it's currently the morning after using it and my skin is still really calm.

I have one more use left in the little sample pot we got given but I can really see me re-purchasing this for when my skin is going mental and it needs some help. I think this would be a great one to use once or twice a week to help keep balanced skin or if you are having a major breakout or something.

My 12 Day Beauty Advent Calendar

Beauty advert calendars seem to be huge this year and I've caved and bought myself one already. I think these are a really great idea as an early present for someone, specially when they cost way less than all of the items put together so you could save yourself some money if you were planning on buying said items for your loved one anyway!

The Feel Unique Beauty Calendar is actually the one I bought for myself as a treat this year, it is one of the more reasonable priced ones and has £85 worth of items inside which sounds like a total bargain. This has a mixture of beauty and skincare items in which is why I liked this as it might give me some new brands or items I like.

This particular one only has 12 days, so I'm going to open these over the next 12 days leading to Christmas day, which means I've resisted opening them for almost a month now! Eek! I think I'm going to be uploading daily photos/videos of what's inside on my Instagram here so be sure to head over and have a peek!
