My Top 5 Comfort TV Shows.

Thursday, 3 November 2016
We all know that someone that can binge watch a TV series or a film over and over and never seem to get bored of it. Well, I'm that person. Whenever I'm feeling sad or lonely I always turn to the screen for entertainment, a digital hug one might say. I have a few shows that I can watch on repeat and it always makes my day feel that little bit easier. If I'm away from home they give me comfort and reassurance, if I just need a huge cry to work something out of my system, then they'll be the go-to avenues to get the flood gates open with a mug of hot chocolate and work those emotions out. Netflix might just be my best friend...and I'm kinda okay with that.

01 Gavin and Stacy
There is just something about this show that warms my heart, even just typing this out right now makes me want to stick the DVD on in the background and hear those lovely Welsh accents. It's just a classic feel good show. If it isn't the love between Gav and Stace, or the pure genius that is Nessa, then maybe you'll find love and laughter in Essex with Pam and Mick. I honestly can't hear the name Gav or Pam now without adding 'olar' to the end. This is one of those shows where I watch all 3 seasons and then start them all over again because I'm not quite willing to let them go for another month or two.

02 Peep Show
Who doesn't enjoy the awkward friendship between Mark and Jeremy? You join them as they take their ordinary but occasionally bizarre path through life. I've always loved watching Peep Show, there is something so British about Mark that makes me laugh and the way he has to put up with Jeremy's weird behaviour. If you enjoy strange one liners from a strange man called Super Hans, then this is the show for you!

03 Friends
There is nothing I can say about Friends that hasn't been said before. It's such a good show to just stick on in the background and enjoy. This always makes me feel better because its like catching up with old Friends...yep, I went there. It's just the perfect combination of feel good easy watching that really does feel like comfort food.

04 The Office (US).
I've spoken about The American Office before on my blog because it's one of my all time favourite things. You get attached to so many of the characters and their strange behaviour that before you know it you're 6 seasons deep. Jim and Pam (olar!) are just pure relationship goals and I think I've shed more tears over their story than anything else I've watched, it's just so wonderful and joy filled that I could watch it over and over. It also reminds me of Nick and I meeting, as we both met and fell in love in working together in an office and watching the show is a cute little reminder. Also Dwight Schrute is probably one of the best TV characters ever, its the character you love to hate in the beginning but fall for his charm and quirks in the end.

05 New Girl
I was introduced to New Girl by a friend whilst at uni and I've been hooked ever since. There isn't one character of this show that doesn't make you laugh, cry or cringe, possibly all at the same time. This is another one to just curl up on the sofa with a nice big hot chocolate and just enjoy. I really love this program and Nick Miller reminds me so much of my Nick its hilarious. Once when my Nick had lost his wallet, he too had his money and cards in a plastic bag for awhile, just like classic Nick Miller. Plus who doesn't love a bit of Zooey Deschannel??

There's nothing quite like sitting down with one of your all time favourite TV shows, laughing along to all the lines you've heard time and time before but still find so much comfort in them, it's one of my go to things to do to unwind and relax.

I'd love to know if you have any comfort TV shows or if you share some of my favourites, let me know in the comments below!

  2. New Girl is the best! I can binge-watch it all day long. Nick is the best!! There's something so comforting about watching those goofy characters. Chuck is one of my favorite comfort series to watch, Zachary Levi is just awesome. Great post!
