To Highlight or Not To Highlight, That Is The Question.

Tuesday, 28 June 2016

It's pretty obvious that highlighting is a massive trend in the beauty world at the minute and in true Tarnya style I'm about 10 years behind with this trend. The main reserve I have about highlighting is that I normally like my makeup to be pretty matte because I get quite oily and I don't really like the 'dewy' look on me. So the idea of adding something to my face to make it look even more oily and shiny has been putting me off trying highlight.

However, I don't think I can truly judge a trend unless I try it out for myself. So I decided to pick up the new Sleek - Solstice highlighting palette and attempt to highlight everyday for 2 weeks and see what my feelings were like afterwards.

Sunday Sitdown #9

Sunday, 26 June 2016
I almost forgot to do a Sunday sit-down post this month because time truly has whizzed on by. I know I say this is every Sunday sit down post but the past month seems to have gone by really quickly even though I haven't seem to have done anything interesting, ha!

As always I'm going to talk about a few things that have been going on with my blog and in real life, so lets grab a cup of tea and have a catch up!

Lisa Stickley FlowerCard Review.

Thursday, 23 June 2016

I love flowers. They're so pretty, smell great and really brighten up a room. Whenever Nick buys me flowers it makes me so happy! As it's coming into summer (shocking I know with all the rain) our house has been crying out for a bit of greenery so when I got contacted and asked if I'd like to try a FlowerCard I was very intrigued. I'd never seen anything like it before and I really like the idea of these cards, so I decided to write a little review for you.

Wishlist For a Summer Garden Makeover

Tuesday, 21 June 2016
When we moved into our house last summer, we planned on spending so much time outside now that we have a garden, but somehow with all the things going on inside the house that needed fixing, it never quite happened. This year however I am determined to tame back the greenery and make it a really nice place to sit out, read and enjoy a cold beverage.

When it comes to all things interior I have a pretty good idea of what I want, however when it comes to the garden, I'm a little lost. I thought I'd put together a little wish list of things I'd love for the garden to make it an enjoyable place to sit and enjoy the summer sun, however little we get in the UK!

Interiors: How I Discovered my Retro Lounge Theme.

Wednesday, 15 June 2016

Over the last few months I've been putting in some serious effort to make our house a home. Although I've been buying interior bits and pieces it didn't quite come together until a couple of weeks ago.
I've been obsessed with analogue photography for as long as I can remember and during a recent Pinterest session I came across some images with vintage cameras on the fireplace. I decided to put one on my fireplace to see how it looked and it sparked huge inspiration in me.

Wedding Update: 4 Months To Go!

Sunday, 12 June 2016
It's almost 4 months till the wedding and everything seems to be going really slowly and quite quickly at the same time.

If I'm honest it's still very much a 50/50 split on nerves and excitement, I think once I have things like my dress finished that'll take some nerves off, but I'm excited that everything is coming together!

Whilst out in Cyprus we finally got my engagement ring re sized. Basically Nick and I got engaged out there last year and thought it would be sweet to buy our ring out there as a memento. We found the perfect heart shaped diamond ring but it was too big for my teeny tiny fingers and due to lack of time, we were assured that it wouldn't be a problem having it re sized back in the UK. We visited multiple places and everyone thought the resizing was too risky because of the 5-6 down sizes. So almost a year later we took it back to the same place in Cyprus and got it re sized down to fit perfectly. It definitely feels like a weight has lifted off my shoulder finally, it's scary not knowing if your engagement ring will actually fit on your wedding day! But now we can hunt for the perfect wedding ring to sit with it!

A few other things have been coming along nicely too, my bridesmaids and I decided on a dress that suited everyone and fits well! Which means the next stage is picking out some accessories to bring some glamour to each outfit! I think I'm going to let the ladies pick something to suit their own styles, so everyone doesn't look the same, I think having some personality showing is nicer than all looking the same.

I also went and got fitted for my wedding dress!! Which is very very exciting. I'm having my wedding dress made my amazing friend Gemma. I've known Gemma for many years and know how amazing her work is, so when I knew I didn't want to buy something off the rack she was the first person I thought of. I can't wait to see it start coming together when we go buy fabrics at the end of this month. It will happen quite quickly once the ball has started rolling and I'm so excited to try it on properly!

Our invites are almost ready to send out. We've picked out which food we'd like for the buffet and I got my flower banquets one Saturday very expectantly when I came across some amazing fake flowers in a shop, I picked them up immediately because they were such a bargain. I also have my make up trial this month so I'm looking forward to that, I think I'm going to go for something quite natural and feminine.

Next on the list of things to do;

Book a hair trial
Finalise music for ceremony and reception
Decide on my own accessories, shoes, jewellery, belt
Book the hotel for wedding night
Decide on where to go for our mini moon break

Although I'm sure there are lots of little things to do, the main thing for us at the minute is keeping on top of finances so we can pay for things when the time comes! It's a little stressful worrying about every little purchase but it'll all be worth it in the end!

I can't believe that the next update will be probably around the 3 months to go mark! It will come around so quickly! If you want to see the story from the beginning you can read my 6 months to go update or The Venues or The Beginnings to get a much better understanding!

As always I'd love to hear from you in the comments! If you think i've missed out something glaringly obvious or you want to join in the fun wedding chats then please leave me a comment!

Living on a Budget: Where to start?

Friday, 10 June 2016
I ran a poll over on twitter about what post people would like me to write next and 'Living on a budget' won by a smidgen. So in this post I'm going to talk about why I live on a small budget at the minute, learning to make your money go further and what I've learnt through the on-going process, so lets start at the very beginning, it's usually a good place to start.

sweet allure living on a budget 101 budgeting money spending limited tips help

For those that haven't followed the blog over the past year, Nick and I got engaged and bought our first home last year and this year decided to finally tie the knot, so it's been a very heavy year or two on the bank balance. Along with that comes some very heavy adulting and deciding on whats the best way to do things.

Before figuring out the money side of things, we had to have the very adult conversation of decided how this is going to work, which resulted in us having a joint bank account to share all of our money. This was something we were both very against in conversations previously in last 3 years however we felt we could both get what we've wanted much quicker if we worked together. Once this conversation was had and the decision was made, I took the following steps towards some major budgeting.

7 Things I learnt From Rewatching Twilight

Thursday, 2 June 2016
I've always been a Twilight fan, however shameful that might be to admit in my mid twenties but I read all the books as a teenager and got super into the films when they were released. I've not sat down and re watched them since back then and decided to do so with Nick after seeing them pop up on my Netflix. As always it was interesting to watch them with a fresh adult perspective.

01 Edward is kind of a bellend.
Back when I first read the books and watched the films, I was always on Team Edward but watching it as an adult, Edward is weird and stalkerish and controlling. He barely leaves Bella's side, he watches her sleep and kind of torments Bella by being super intense before dropping her like a hot potato. It's really not a healthy relationship.

02 The wedding is actually really beautiful.
I might be a little bias at the minute about weddings but the ceremony in the forest with all the fairy lights is really beautiful, I kind of wish I could do that! We just have to try and forgot about the fact she's about 17 and way to goey eyed about the whole thing...

03 Edward is about 100 years old but still doesn't know how to wear a condom.
It's all fun and games until someone gets pregnant on their first sexual encounter. I guess the 40 years of college education was lost on you huh Edward? Yes, I suppose being dead for however many years means you didn't expect there to be some swimmers hanging around but hey, guess you were wrong.

04 Jacob is a hot dog.
See what I did there? I am a 100% Team Jacob convert. He's so kind and caring and genuinely loves Bella for who she is but she's too goey eyed over cold meat that she seriously friend zones the poor guy. She even gets the nerve to get pissed when he falls hopelessly for her daughter, I mean, cut the poor guy some slack.

05 Vampires have great taste.
The Cullen's house is actually incredible, how does no-one in the little town question something weird is going on? How much money do they think doctors actually make?! Either way, the house is amazing, so is the furniture and they all have great style, not sure if I'm willing to trade my soul for it all though.

06 Turning into a vampire makes you look like a model.
I can't have been the only one that watched that scene and magically watched the full face of make up appear on her and think, damn, Bella a hottie. I wish when I woke up from my Friday night coma I looked this good on a Saturday morning.

07 The Cullens are a pretty sexy family.
Do you think Carlisle went around picking the most attractive kids to join his #vampgang ? Seriously there isn't one of the family members that I wouldn't. For those that want to know my favourite, always has been and always will be Jasper, he's my bae.

If you can look past all the silly teen vibe of the films, they are actually quite fun to watch, however lame that makes me sound. I love re-watching things like this from an adults view point so I can poke fun at them for these kind of posts. If you've enjoyed reading this you'll probably enjoy 8 Things I learnt from rewatching Sex and the City and 3 Disappointing Moments from the Harry Potter Series

If you have any suggestion of TV or films you'd like me to watch for this type of post, please let me know in the comments. Also let me know if you noticed any silly things about Twilight that I didn't!
